FAQs
Why won't my loading dock go down, or why is it stuck in the raised position?
A stuck dock can be caused by a hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical problem, such as a lack of oil, a defective sensor, or a damaged part. Avoid forcing the mechanism. A technician must inspect the dock leveler to determine the exact cause and perform a safe repair.
What should I do if my hydraulic leveler is leaking or unresponsive?
A leak can come from a hose, a fitting, a cylinder, or a damaged hydraulic seal. If the leveler is unresponsive, the problem may also be related to the pump, electrical controls, or power supply. Take the equipment out of service until it is inspected to avoid causing further damage.
Can a rusted, damaged, or broken lifting mechanism be repaired?
This depends on the condition of the springs, chains, pivots, welds, and the dock structure. Some parts can be adjusted or replaced, while significant deterioration may require a complete upgrade. An inspection will determine if a repair remains safe and cost-effective.
Why is my dock plate sagging or misaligned?
A sagging plate can be caused by worn pivots, structural deformation, a lifting issue, or repeated loads exceeding the equipment’s capacity. Misalignment can make forklift passage unstable and accelerate the wear of the dock leveler.
How do I know if my dock leveler is defective?
Irregular movements, unusual noises, oil leaks, an unstable platform, or a lip that does not deploy properly can indicate a defect. A preventive inspection can identify worn parts before a complete breakdown interrupts your operations.
What should I do when a truck hits the dock structure or bumpers?
Stop using the dock if the structure, bumpers, leveler, or restraints appear damaged. Even if the damage seems minor, an impact can affect the anchors, welds, and alignment of the equipment. A professional inspection is recommended before returning it to service.
Should a damaged loading dock be repaired or replaced?
The decision depends on the age of the equipment, the extent of the damage, the availability of parts, and its compliance with current safety standards. A repair may be sufficient for a localized problem. A replacement is generally preferable when the structure is severely deteriorated or when repairs become too frequent.
Do you also repair doors, controls, and safety devices?
Yes. PGM works on industrial sectional doors, electrical controls, weather seals (ou weatherstripping), bumpers, and trailer restraint systems. Our team can check the entire loading area to ensure the proper operation of related equipment.
Do you offer emergency repair services for loading docks?
Yes. PGM offers a 24/7 emergency service for breakdowns that compromise safety or interrupt operations. Our technicians can diagnose the problem, secure the facilities, and perform the necessary repairs based on the condition of the equipment.
In which regions do you offer your loading dock services?
PGM notably serves Drummondville, Saint-Hyacinthe, Granby, Magog, Sherbrooke, Estrie, Montérégie, the South Shore, and Centre-du-Québec. Our services include the installation, preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of loading docks and dock levelers.
